A typical day at dk's
My little brother is just too cute lol.
Abdullah: What does that say?
Me: It says "Allah" in Arabic
Abdullah: What is "Allah”?
Me: didn't u already ask me this before haha..?
Abdullah: NO. I mean like... is Allah a her or a him??
Me: haha.ohh. Well, Allah is neither a ...‘him’ nor is Allah a ...‘her’. He's... um...How should I say this...he's *God*... he created little boys and girls...like me and you... um... so he can't be his own creation right? Wouldn’t that be kind of a ... (he cuts me off)
Abdullah: uhhh ...He’s like 'magic' right?
Me: um...no...He’s more like... (He cuts me off again)
Abdullah: Tell me how he looks like! Then maybe I'll get it... (He’s starting to get really irritated)
Me: Well...no one really knows how Allah looks like...but He's not a boy or a girl... or an animal...or some kind of superhero....or anything u can think of...haha...
Abdullah: Sooo...he like uses a magic wand?
{My mom is laughing in the background}
Me: are you listening to a word I'm saying little man? ... and who told u this? Who told u Allah has a magic wand? (I was stopping myself from going into hysterical laughter)
Abdullah: No one told me that... I just thought he did./ then how does he make things happen?!
Me: He just says *be* and it happens...no wands involved
(He has the most confused little face I have ever seen....haha)
Abdullah: huh? hmm...you know what..never mind...I’m gonna ask Abdirazak(one of my older brothers) when he gets back...
Me: noo...don't gooo... get back here...
Abdullah: You don't make any sense! (Runs away)
LOL. He just has sooo many questions... and it's just so hard to explain things to a 4 yr old that has the shortest attention span everr and has limited vocabulary lol.
This was my highlight of the day...I still can't stop laughing... his confused look was too cute.
Just the other day he started to cry like a madman because my little sister told him that everyone will die one day...including mommy and daddy...
Insha'Allah...He won't be asking me anytime soon where it is that babies come from =\ =\ =\
Kids these days lol.

BACK FROM RIS
Toronto this year was AMAZING, Alhamdulillah .The weather was unbelievable! No snow! Can u believe it? But oh god, it’s hard to breathe the air in downtown Toronto and I’ve never seen that many homeless people in my life. Some of them were living in little cardboard boxes at intersections. Subhan’Allah. What a sad sight.
But It was so much calmer and there was less drama compared to last year’s trip. Actually there was no drama whatsoever this year, well...except for when we beat up Smeagol LOL =P
We started off the trip with some shopping and awesome restaurants. We also went to Niagara Falls. It wasn’t all that special for me...since I used live there. But on our way there I saw this brown rusty looking fence on the highway that went from T. to Niagara Falls and that’s when memories just kept hitting me, and it hit so hard. All I could hear in my head was “hey! I remember that, and that, and that!” “That’s where so in so used to live!” *sigh*good times, good times... memories kill :S
As for the Sheyukh at RIS, they were astonishing, my all time favourite Sheikh is Abdul Hakim Quick. Wow. That Sheikh can really catch your intention. He always uses all these specific facts and statistics to back up everything he says...Wow. And Sheikh Tariq Ramadan is remarkable. He cried during his last speech...some people had no idea why he was crying, but just by watching the sorrow on his face most began to cry quietly. The funny thing was that someone on my right told me his father passed away and that’s why he was crying. On my left they told me his friend died. I was so confused lol. It was clarified the next day, majority said he was crying because he wasn’t able to really interact with us...and to him, that was the essential aspect of being the scholar and preacher that he is. There were always bodyguards and so he was forced to spend most of his time isolated. Later on, after that speech, he was found in the main lobby walking around with a whole bunch of young men. To my surprise one of the brothers from Edmonton was *actually* holding hands with Sheikh Tariq Ramadan! Almost as if he was consoling the Sheikh or perhaps they were just talking ...as friends do. :o
I took some notes and Alhamdulillah I benefited from them a whole lot. It kept me awake during the Conference lol. We (the girls in our hotel room) hardly slept during that week so my head kept falling back even though I wanted to listen eagerly. Uncle Alami caught me with closed eyes once and all I felt was a gust of air coming at me. He was using a piece of paper to fan me with and he was moving the paper side to side really fast to wake me up and I jumped up and everyone was looking at me :S that taught me a lesson....if I want to sleep ...sit away from Uncle.lol jk. Naw, I’m actually so grateful he woke me up...I was going to miss one of the greatest sheikhs in America, Sheikh Siraj Wahaj! Alhamdullillah i was awake to hear his speech! That Sheikh is hi/la/ri/OUS. Lol. He’s #3 on my list of favourite sheikhs. So yeah, the conference went really really well. I heard about 15 thousand people attended the conference. Masha’Allah! And I’ve never seen so many niqabi’s in my entire life!! I was so amazed! Can u believe it?! 16 yr old girls not only wearing hijab, not only wearing jilbab...but niqab! Wow! Subhan’Allah. I’m merely estimating their age because I saw a few niqabis with their friends and they looked around my age, and by the way they spoke they were definitely teenagers. And there were so many men wearing thobes. It was just.. *wow*
The concert was something out of this world. There was Nazil Azami, Hamza Robertson, Ehab Tawfiq(straight from Egypt) Aashiq Al Rasul and OUTLANDISH. Some of them were so lip sinking lol. One of them “pulled an Ashley Simpson” as Omi describes it to be. LOL.
The behaviour of the girls during the Outlandish performance was disgraceful. There was yelling, cheering and whistling. It made me sick. Seriously speaking, RIS= Reviving the Islamic Spirit. Geeez. Yelling “I LOVE YOU” isn’t going to revive much my sistas in Islam...
And on the last day of the conference (the day before yesterday) a woman converted to Islam with the help of Sheikh Tariq Suwaidan. AllahuAkbar! It was miraculous. Alhamdullillah. :’)
I met up with some of my old friends too but i didn’t spend too much time with them because i came for the conference not to socialize. I told them that next year I’d try my best to stay in T. for 3 weeks that way we could have 4 yrs to catch up on isha’Allah.
I still can’t get over how fast it went. I haven’t felt so at ease with myself for awhile. The conference was definitely what I needed. My islamic spririt has been "revived" lol. God I miss Toronto....already! Most people don’t like how crowded it is, but I *LOVE* it. You can’t walk like 500 meters without seeing a Muslim. No joke! I’m really considering going to the University of Toronto or the University of Ottawa to continue with my French...i dunno yet. But thats almost 2 years away(1 yr and a half to be exact) so I have some time to think about where I want to go. Allahu a3lam.
For those who didn’t go to RIS, I’m not gonna lie...You missed out BIG TIME. Lol
I’ll put some pictures up and some clips of the concert (I know it’s totally illegal and all ...but all you need to know is that “I” wasn’t the one filming lol)
Insha’Allah everyone is having a nice break.
PS: don't forget about the mosquers yall :D

Africa my Africa
Africa my Africa
Africa my motherland
Mother or Fatherland
Childless you went almost
But he that intervened
The God of all nations
Africa my Africa
Mother of nations great
Nigeria in the west
Ethiopia in the east remains
With labor pangs
You brought them forth
Africa my Africa
Father of Egypt
To the north, be so planted
And Zimbabwe, the south remains
And for Africa that mothered them all
Africa my Africa
Your discovery had brought you pains
Children and grandchildren
To the great sea you lost
Continents with them were fed
Africa my Africa
In Vain labor no more
Loose a child, but to no one
Your great nations do protect
For he shall intervene
When you cry for help.

-Allah says, "Do not backbite one another Would any of you like to eat his brother's dead flesh? No, you would hate it. But have taqwa of Allah. Allah is Ever-Returning, Most Merciful," (49:12)
-and He says, "Do not pursue what of which you have no knowledge of hearing, sight, and hearts will all be questioned." (17:36)
-Allah says, "He does not utter a single word without a watcher by him, pen in hand." (50:18)
1511. Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day, should speak good words or be silent." [Agreed upon]
This hadith clearly indicates that he should not speak unless the words he speaks are good. That means speech whose benefit is clear. If there is any doubt about benefit occurring, he should not speak.
1512. Abu Musa said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, whose Islam is best?' He said, 'The one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe.'" [Agreed upon]
1513. Sahl ibn Sa'd reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who safeguards for My sake what is between his jaws and what is between his legs, I will safeguard the Garden for him." [Agreed upon]
1514. Abu Hurayra reported that he heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, "A slave of Allah might say something, without realising its seriousness, which causes him to slip into the Fire by a greater margin than the distance between the east and the west." [Agreed upon]
1515. Abu Hurayra is that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "A slave of Allah might say something which pleases Allah Almighty without realising it on account of which Allah raises him some degrees. A slave of Allah might say something which angers Allah Almighty without realising it on account of which he falls into Jahannam." [al-Bukhari]
1516. Abu 'Abdu'r-Rahman Bilal ibn al-Harith al-Muzani reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "A man may say something which pleases Allah Almighty without him realising the full extent of its implication, and because of it, Allah prescribes His pleasure for him until the Day he meets Him. And a man may likewise say something which angers Allah without him realising the full extent of its implication, and because of it, Allah prescribes His wrath for him until the Day he meets Him. [Malik in al-Muwatta' and at-Tirmidhi]
1517. Sufyan ibn 'Abdullah said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, tell me something I can cling to.' He said, 'Say: "My Lord is Allah" and then go straight.' I said, 'Messenger of Allah, what is the thing you fear most for me?' He took hold of his tongue and then said, 'This.'" [at-Tirmidhi]
1518. Ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Do not say much without mentioning Allah. A lot of talk without mentioning Allah Almighty makes people's hearts hard. The furthest of people from Allah are the hard-hearted." [at-Tirmidhi]
1519. Abu Hurayra said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Anyone whom Allah protects from the evil of what is between his jaws and the evil of what is between his legs will enter the Garden.'" [at-Tirmidhi]
1520. 'Uqba ibn 'Amir said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, what ensures safety?' He said, 'Holding your tongue, keeping to your house and weeping for your sins.'" [at-Tirmidhi]
1521. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When the son of Adam starts the day, all his limbs supplicate his tongue, saying, 'Fear Allah in respect of us. We move by you. If you go straight, we go straight. If you go crooked, we go crooked.'" [at-Tirmidhi]
1522. Mu'adh said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, tell me of an action which will admit me to the Garden and keep me far from the Fire.' He said, 'You have asked about a great matter, but it is easy for the one to whom Allah Almighty makes it easy: worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, do the prayer, pay the zakat, fast Ramadan and go on hajj to the House.' Then he said, 'Shall I direct you to the gates of good? Fasting, which is a protection, and sadaqa, which extinguishes mistakes as water extinguishes fire, and the prayer of a man in the middle of the night.' Then he recited, 'Their sides eschew their beds' until he reached 'what it used to do.' (32:16-17) Then he said, 'Shall I tell you of the head of the matter, its support and its peak?' I said, 'Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'The head of the matter is Islam and its support is the prayer and its peak is jihad.' Then he said, 'Shall I tell you of the foundation of all that?' I said, 'Yes, indeed, Messenger of Allah.' He took hold of his tongue and said, 'Restrain this.' I said, 'Messenger of Allah, will we be taken to task for what we say ?' He said, 'May your mother be bereaved! Are people thrown on their faces into the Fire for anything but the harvest of their tongues?'" [at-Tirmidhi]

He said, 'You have said something that, if it were mixed with the water of the ocean, would still pollute it!' [She said,] I said, 'I related something unpleasant about someone to him and he said, "I would not like to relate anything unpleasant about someone, even if I were to receive such-and-such a thing [for doing it]."'" [Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi]

1525. 'A'isha said, "I said to the Prophet, 'Such-and-such should be enough for you in respect of Safiyya.' (Some of the transmitters say that she meant her shortness.) He said, 'You have said something that, if it were mixed with the water of the ocean, would still pollute it!' [She said,] I said, 'I related something unpleasant about someone to him and he said, "I would not like to relate anything unpleasant about someone, even if I were to receive such-and-such a thing [for doing it]."'" [Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi]
1526. Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When I ascended through the heavens, I passed by some people holding copper nails with which they were gouging their faces and chests. I said, 'Who are these, Jibril?' He said, 'Those are the people who consumed people's flesh and attacked their honour.'" [Abu Dawud]
1527. Abu Hurayra stated that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The blood, honour and property of every Muslim is sacred for another Muslim." [Muslim]

There was a young man who went overseas to study for quite a long
time. When he returned, he asked his parents to find him a religious
scholar or any expert who could answer his 3 questions. Finally, his
parents were able to find a Muslim scholar.
Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?
Scholar: I am one of Allah (SubHana Wa Ta`ala )’s slaves and
insha-Allah (God willing), I will be able to answer your questions.
Young man : Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not
able to answer my questions.
Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of Allah(SubHana Wa
Ta`ala ).
Young Man: I have 3 questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is takdir (fate)?
3. If shaitan (Devil) was created from the fire, why at the end he
will be thrown to hell that also created from fire. It certainly
will not hurt him at all, since Shaitan (Devil) and the hell were
created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?
Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man’s face very hard.
Young Man (feeling pain): Why do you get angry at
me?
Scholar: I am not angry. The slap is my answer to your
three questions.
Young Man: I really don’t understand.
Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: Of course, I felt the pain.
Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?
Young Man: Yes.
Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain!
Young Man: I cannot.
Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God’s existence
without being able to see His shape.
Scholar: Last night, did you dream that you will be slapped by me?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me, today?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: That is takdir (fate).
Scholar: My hand that I used to slap you, what is it created from?
Young Man: It is created from skin.
Scholar: How about your face, what is it created from?
Young Man: Skin.
Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: In pain.
Scholar: Even though Shaitan (Devil) and also the hell were created
from the fire, if Allah wants, insha-Allah (God willing), the hell
will become a very painful place for Shaitan (Devil).

A beautiful hadith that answers many of our questions simply requires to be acted upon. Imam Ahmad records that Khalid ibn Walid narrated that:
A Bedouin came one day to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said to him, "O Messenger of Allah! I've come to ask you a few questions about the affairs of this Life and Hereafter." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, spoke: 'Ask what you wish.' The Bedouin stated: ' I'd like to be the most learned of men,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Fear Allah, and you will be the most learned of men.' The Bedouin spoke: ' I wish to be the richest man in the world.' whereupn the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied: ' Be contented, and you will be the richest man in the world.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to be the most just man,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied: ' Desire for others what you desire for yourself, and you will be the most just of men.'
The Bedouin spoke: ' I want to be the best of men,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Do good to others and you will be the best of men.' The Bedouin said: ' I wish to be most favoured by Allah," whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Engage much in Allah's praise, and you will be the most favoured by Him.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to complete my faith," whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you have good manners you will complete your faith.' The Bedouin spoke: ' I wish to be among those who do good,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'Adore Allah as if you see Him. If you don't see Him, (know that) He see's you. In this way you will be among those who do good.' The Bedouin said: ' I wish to be obedient to Allah,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you observe Allah's commands you will be obedient.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to be free from all sin,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Bathe yourself from impurities and you will be fre from alll sins.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to be raised on the Day of Judgment in the light,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Do no wrong yourself, or any other creature and you will be rasied on the Day of Judgment in the light.'
The Bedouin said: ' I'd like Allah to bestow His mercy on me,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you have mercy on yourself and others, Allah will grant you mercy on the Day of Judgment.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like my sins to be very few,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you seek the forgiveness of Allah as much as you can, your sins will be very few.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to be the most honourable man,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you do not complain to any fellow creature, you will be the most honourable of men.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to be the strongest of men,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you put your trust in Allah, you will be the strongest of men.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to enlarge my provision,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you keep yourself pure, Allah will enlarge your provision.'
The Bedouin said: ' I'd like to be loved by Allah and His Messenger,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you love what Allah and His messenger love, you will be among their beloved ones.' The Bedouin said: ' I wish to be safe from Allah's wrath on the Day of Judgment,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you do not loose your temper with any of your fellow creatures, you will be safe from the wrath of Allah on the Day of Judgment.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like my prayers to be responded,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' If you avoid forbidden actions, your prayers will be responded.' The Bedouin said: ' I'd like Allah not to disgrace me on the Day of Judgment,' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said ' If you guard your chastity, Allah will not disgrace you on the Day of Judgment.'
The Bedouin said: ' I'd like Allah to provide me with a protective covering on the Day of Judgment,' wherepon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Do not uncover your fellow creatures faults, and Allah will provide you with a covering protection on the Day of Judgment.' The Bedouin then asked: ' What will save me from sins?' whereupon the Messenger of Allah may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Tears, humility, and illness.' The Bedouin asked: 'What are the best deeds in eyes of Allah?' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Gentle manners, modesty and patience.' The Bedouin asked: ' What are the worst evils in the eyes of Allah? whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Hot temper and miserliness.' The Bedouin asked: ' What assuages the wrath of Allah in this life and in the Hereafter?' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Concealed charity and kidness to relatives.' The Bedouin finally asked: ' What extinguishes hell's fires on the Day of Judgment?' whereupon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ' Patience in adversity and misfortunes.'

wow...I wonder..
who in their right mind voted for this guy?
He'd probably be a good comedian though lol
"fool me once, shame on...shame on...you ?
....ya fool me, ya cant get fooled again." LOL
wow wow wow...
I wonder
If Prophet Muhammad visited you
Just for a day or two,
If he came unexpectedly,
I wonder what you'd do.
Oh,
I know you'd give your nicest room,
To such an honored guest,
And all the food you'd serve him,
Would be the very best,
And you would keep assuring him,
You're glad to have him there,
That serving him in you home,
Is joy beyond compare.
.....when you saw him coming,
Would you meet him at the door,
With arms outstretched in welcome,
To your visitor?
Or....would you have to change your clothes
Before you let him in?
Or hide some magazines and put,
The Quran where they had been?
Would you still watch dirty movies,
On your T.V. set?
Or would you switch it off.
Before he gets upset?
Would you turn off the radio,
And hope he hadn't heard?
And wish you hadn't uttered the last loud hasty word?
Would you hide your worldly music,
And instead take Hadith books out?
Could you let him walk right in,
Or would you rush about?
And, I wonder.....if the Prophet spent,
A day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing the things,
You always do?
Would you go right on saying the things
You always say?
Would life for you continue,
As it does from day to day?
Would your family conversation,
Keep up its usual pace,
And Would you find it hard each meal,
To say a table grace?
Would you keep up each and every prayer?
Without putting on a frown?
And would you always jump up early,
For prayer at dawn?
Would you sing the songs you always sing,
And read the books you read?
And let him know the things on which,
Your mind and spirit feed?
Would you take Prophet with you,
Everywhere you plan to go?
Or, would you maybe change your plans,
Just for a day or so?
Would you be glad to have him meet,
Your very closest friends?
Or, would you hope they stay away,
Until his visit ends?
Would you be glad to have him stay,
Forever on and on?
Or would you sigh with great relief,
When he at last was gone?
It might be interesting to know,
The things that you would do.
If Prophet Muhammad, in person,
came,to spend some time with you.

Im getting scared. real scared. yesterday night before maghrib, the sky looked as if it were on fire. blazing fire. Yeah, it was beautiful, but i couldnt help the thought of judgement day. My brother was like "isnt tomorrow friday...." lol, he was trying to get me even more scared then i was already. the night before, i fell asleep really late doing some h/w and woke up at 2:30am to a quran in my hands tucked under me.... i couldnt remember if i fell asleep reading it, i couldnt remember how it even got into my hands at the time. I think im losing my mind.
I havn't watched the news lately...i was at juma and a friend told me about the bombing in lebanon. got me even more scared! a friend of mine is over there right now. She went to visit her dad for the summer....i hope she's alright iA.
Muslims around the world are getting killed....subhan'Allah, and while most of us sit back with no worries.... and wait, wait. wait for what?
Next thing u know they'll be comming for Somalia, Pakistan,Bangladesh, Gayana, Egypt and so on....then maybe we'll care .. then maybe...just maybe we'll care.
I think the end of the world is near. ppl usualy think im wierd when i talk like that..."sooo...hows life" "meh....same old. school's boring, most of my friends left the country and I have this really strong feeling that the end of the world is comming...how bout u?:)"
Ive been told that im pretty inteligent for a "black" "female"....lol....it was a joke, i laughed she laughed, i know she didnt meen it...jussst a joke. But it got me thinking, i know a few ppl that always give me this surpised look whenever i get good grades...geezzz. funny how society works though, ud think racism is completely gone aye. HA. i hate to say but i sometimes even see it in the masjid, no joke.
During halaqa today a few girls were asking how a man can "not" be married to his slavegirl and still get babies with her....umm this was way back in the day, way back as in prophet(saw) time.
i dont think its alowed nomore though. i thought about english class and how im soooo thankful we didnt read "to kill a mocking bird" in that class. I had already read it like 4 yrs ago, its a real good book. I just hate how they use the N word after almost every 2nd sentence. We read "the miracle worker" instead, they used that word a couple of times in that book....
the teacher reads outloud right...so everytime he would say it, all you would see is ppl looking at me from the corner of their eyes. analyzing my every movement and reactions.lol....one time, i let out one big ol' sigh without even knowing, but it was at the exact time the teacher had droped the N bomb...heads turned so fast ud probably hear snaps if u were close enough. ...i just laughed it off. A friend of my brothers had to read to kill a mockingbird in his class. the students read outloud instead of the teacher reading. They all had some fun throwing the N word around knowing that some black guy wont beat them up for it since they "had to" ...lol. But my bro's friend got out of his seat and started yelling at the teacher and the students for being so inconsiderate....after that little incident, they literally used "n word" everytime they came across that word.LOL
I met a convert at halaqa today, i think her name is Shareen. She's so masha'Allah in everyway.
I admire her greatly. I have so many questions that i want to ask her. i hope i dont scare her away though lol.
good night

Death...
Death. Something we don't often think of. The thought is a bit scary, isnt it?...The reality of things is always scary....
We do not have to be old to die nor do we have to be sick.... death can snatch us away at anytime, at any place...any age...
- Abu Hurayra reported the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Race to good actions as fast as you can. What are you waiting for except delayed poverty, oppressive wealth, debilitating illness, dottering senility, a swift death or the Dajjal? Or are you waiting for an unseen evil, or the Last Hour? The Last Hour will be most bitter and terrible." [at-Tirmidhi]
Really, what "are" we waiting for?? ...
And let me say, when the time does come... let us not weep constantly for the deceased, let us not regret, let us not hate the one who caused the death (wal'iyadubillah).
A saying by the Prophet(pbuh)"He who slaps his cheeks, tears his clothes and follows the ways and traditions of the Days of Ignorance is not one of us."
Easy to say, but i know..it is not very easy to act upon, iA we will control our emotions.
Our beloved prophet Muhammad S.A.W had also said:"The gift of a believer is death." [1609]
So if you are a true believer then 'no worries', heaven awaits iA :)
I have some breaking news. Maybe not some "new news" for some of you...
Our dear sisters Heerah and Hafsah's grandmother is on her death bed right now.
I beg each and one of you to make dua for her. It is a very painful time for the family, we should all try to sympathize with them and hope for the best iA.
Lets keep in mind that everything that happens will only happen by the will of Allah, and if her soul were to be taken away today or tomorrow or the next day, it would only be by the will of Allah, it would be destiny, something already prescribed long ago, something we cannot change.
Let this be a reminder to all of us, that yes, we shall all die, whether we like it or not...it is not our choice. This body we are in, it does not even belong to us, it belongs to Allah, only given to us temporarily to worship him and only him...our only purpose in life. This reminder is for myself first and foremost and thought that perhaps we can all benefit from this.
Don't feel bad sisters, iA jannah awaits her. :)
May Allah grant her the highest stage in Jannah, janatul furdos iA.
May Allah forgive her sins and shower her with mercy.
May Allah make the test inside the grave easy for her.
May Allah ease the pain of their family.
May Allah guide us all and keep us on the straight path.
AMEEN
(we should all be sincere when making dua iA)
I leave you with this note:
-Ibn 'Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took me by the shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveller on the road."

-Ibn 'Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took me by the shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveller on the road."

impossible to get rid of...
For the past 3 months, 6 people have asked me the reason for "muslims being against homosexuality". I hope the comments on my last post were able to answer that question.
And as for why muslims dont believe Jesus to be God or why we dont believe he was crucified. Im no scholar, I can't answer that question, but this man (Zakir Naik) is a well known scholar around the world who deals with these kind of topics.

A modern hijab poem
Baby, it's all good!
Author unknown
What do you see when you look at me
Do you see someone limited, or someone free
All some people can do is just look and stare
Simply because they can't see my hair
Others think I am controlled and uneducated
They think that I am limited and un-liberated
They are so thankful that they are not me
Because they would like to remain 'free'
Well free isn't exactly the word I would've used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused
They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn't my choice
They think that the hood makes me look caged
That my husband or dad are totally outraged
All they can do is look at me in fear
And in my eye there is a tear
Not because I have been stared at or made fun of
But because people are ignoring the One up above
On the day of judgment they will be the fools
Because they were too ashamed to play by their own rules
Maybe the guys won't think I am a cutie
But at least I am filled with more inner beauty
See I have declined from being a guy's toy
Because I won't let myself be controlled by a boy
Real men are able to appreciate my mind
And aren't busy looking at my behind
Hooded girls are the ones really helping the Muslim cause
The role that we play definitely deserves applause
I will be recognized because I am smart and bright
And because some people are inspired by my sight
The smart ones are attracted by my tranquility
In the back of their mind they wish they were me
We have the strength to do what we think is right
Even if it means putting up a life long fight
You see we are not controlled by a mini skirt and tight shirt
We are given only respect, and never treated like dirt
So you see, we are the ones that are free and liberated
We are not the ones that are sexually terrorized and violated
We are the ones that are free and pure
We're free of STD's that have no cure
So when people ask you how you feel about the hood
Just sum it up by saying, 'Baby its all good'
Now this...is my kind of poem.

30 days as a muslim in America
"Guy becomes muslim for only 30 days to experience the in-depth of Islam."
-Morgan Spurlock...remember him? The guy from the documentary "Super size me"..well..he does this show called "30 days".
30 days as ...w/e the producers choose...so they came up with "30 days as a muslim" using this guy that's a hardcore christian...watch it...its pretty interesting stuff.
Turning Muslim In The UK
Wow...that lady has courage for wearing the burqa/niqaab...also considering the fact that she just entered islam not so long ago.
Its funny because most converts that I have met (in T. and Edmonton)always seem more intertwined with their faith....while the muslims born into this religion are running away from it...maybe its because they found the truth for them selves while "we" were told what to believe, and decided to beleive it without the effort of researching the truth for ourselves....maybe because "we" take this for granted and blindly follow the crowd like a flock of sheep, not knowing what it is that we
believe or why....
Things like these is what puts a smile on my face....seeing it live is a 100 times better though (i know...i'm a bit wierd) :D
Bukhari narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Whoever wronged his brother with regard to his honour or any other matter, should seek his forgiveness today, before there are no longer any dinars, or dirhams; and if he has any righteous deeds, they will be taken from him, in accordance with the wrong he did; and if he has no hasanaat, some of the sayi`aat of his counterpart will be taken and added to his burden.” [Bukhari: Kitaab al-Mazaalim, Baab man kaanat lahu mazlamah `inda rajul, Fath al-Baari, 5/101]
This person whose hasanaat are taken from him by the people, and then has their sayi`aat placed on his own back, is the one who is bankrupt, as the Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) called him. Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Do you know who is the one who is bankrupt?" They said, "The bankrupt is the one who has no money and no possessions." He said, "Among my ummah, the one who is bankrupt is the one who will come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer and fasting and zakah (to his credit), but he will come having insulted this one, slandered that one, consumed the wealth of this one and shed the blood of that one, and beaten that one. So they will all be given some of his hasanaat, and when his hasanaat run out, before judgement is passed, some of their sins will be taken and cast onto him, then he will be cast into the Fire." [Muslim: 4/1998, hadith no. 2581.]
If a debtor died when he still owed money to people, they will take from his hasanaat whatever is in accordance with what he owes them. In Sunan ibn Maajah it is narrated with a saheeh isnaad that Ibn 'Umar (radhiallahu `anhu) stated: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Whoever dies owing a dinar or a dirham, it will be paid from his hasanaat, for then there will be no dinars or dirhams.” [Saheeh al-Jaami' as-Sagheer, 5/537, hadith no. 6432.]

The Slanderer & the Backbiter
In the name of Allah the Most Beneficient The Most Merciful.
-Wail to every slanderer and backbiter
(Soorah Al-Humazah, verse #1)
{That is, they will be in a river in Hell-fire wich is composed of the pus and purulant discharge of the people of Hell. The slanderer disparages people while the backbiter speaks ill of them behind their backs, thus angering them.}
-Behold, you received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things which you had no knowledge; and you thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of God (24: 15) {Many of us back bite and gossip without thinking. We think it is minor matter, however God reminds us to be careful and even though we think we are doing something little it is in fact very big in the sight of God!}
-And why did you not, when you heard it, say? "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to God, this is a most serious slander" (24:16)
{Many people are so busy spreading the slander they hear that they do not even stop to think if it is true or not.}
-Prophet Muhammad said :"Do you know what backbiting is?" They said, "God and His Messenger know best." He then said, "It is to say something about your brother that he would dislike." Someone asked him, "But what if what I say is true?" The Messenger of God(pbuh)said, "If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him." (Muslim)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After friday's halaqa, as any other friday evening, I had gone over to my friends house. Another friend of mine decided to join me, and so we walked together for awhile. We spoke of many things, she's a bit older than I am, so everything I would tell her she would completely understand having gone through it already. We talked about school, our interests, our lives before edmonton, our goals ...our friends. Things started to get a little more personal and I mentioned a friend of ours. I told her that she wasn't always the way she was and that her pick of friends is the main cause of "who" she has become. Before I could finish my sentence I looked up at her in awe... her hands were on her ears as she was shaking her head. "Are you o.k ?" I ask.
She looks at me , hoping that she had not hurt my feelings. "I'm sorry... I just hate it whenever people talk badly about each other...it doesn't make any sense...its nothing but trouble...I just hate it...I hope I didn't hurt your feelings, I just..." I looked at her for a while, then smiled.. the biggest smile and told her that not only am i "not" hurt by what you have just done...but I am so thankful that I have a friend like you. Thats definitely the first time someone has done something like this to me. I told her that I always encourage my friends to tell me whenever I do/say something wrong, but they always tell me "after" I've already done it...while she had stopped me in the process of making a great mistake (thankfully)
Its true...I hate it when people gossip, sometimes a little may slip out unknowingly...but for those who sit and watch the wrong doing.. knowing that you "could" have stoped it from happening...just rememeber...you will also be questioned
" And why did you not, when you heard it, say? "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to God, this is a most serious slander" (24:16).
So the one who listens to the backbiting/slandering could be just as bad as the one who commits it. Yes, yes, i know not everyone is capable of just "stopping" the act of backbiting, lets just be aware of what we say...and how we say it. (Rome wasn't built in a day :) )
This past year, every single fight (concerning the girls...that I have witnessed) either verbal or physical was caused by this...the act of satan.
What will we do the next time we are tempted to backbite or hear slander in our presence
hmm...?
Masha'Allah
We definitely need more like him :) .
masha'Allah, and he is only 4 yrs old (so I've heard)
If only I could understand...
Verily, the prayer is a preventative deterrent against human tendencies towards doing what is wrong.

Intense Conversation
The other day, while I was in one of my classes, I got into this intense conversation with a friend of mine. She asked me about my beliefs, and I summarized the basics to her, how I believe in one God and the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was the last amongst them, how Muslims have to pray 5 times a day, but I forgot to mention Zakat & the pilgrimages to Makkah .. she already knew about fasting, then I asked her about her beliefs and she didn’t really know what to say.
She said to me that she believes in God and that God is everywhere. She's always singing songs about Jesus (gospel), but when I asked her if she believed Jesus to be god, she said no…(lol…funny stuff)
She didn’t know what to believe actually, she was pretty much lost. This girl that was listing to our conversation comes over and starts talking to us about religion too. She told me she was an atheist. When I asked her why, she said god was never there for her in her time of need, so god “must” be a fictional character, only to make people feel better about them selves. I was so surprised. I don’t remember what I said to her, all I remember is the teacher staring at me…
After a while, we suddenly started talking about why I was against homosexuality…..it was so disturbing talking about things like that. Then I told her that, the only reason why I was against it, is because my religion doesn’t allow it. Then she asked me “So…would you ever do anything to stop 'it' ?” I told her that even if I could…who would listen, right? Then she looked at me and said “good, I was hoping you weren’t one of those “anti homosexual people”. I had this puzzled look on my face, and then she told me that these 2 girls in one of our classes was “one of them”…and I’m like “say whaaat?? "
I really wanted to stop talking about it, and then she gets closer to me, as if whispering,
"I don’t mind people like that…I guess they’re just born like that, huh? ummmm…although I have a boyfriend, sometimes I get attracted to girls…but not to the extent that I would actually go out with one, hahaha”
I was horrified and my friend was staring at me and I’m staring back and I was like
“ hold up/hold up /hold UP ….what in heck just happened?”
I walked backwards really slowly, and said that I better get back to work…
That was one of “the most uncomfortable” moments I had ever gone through…
I can’t even look at that girl the same way I used to…
man they should ban that kind of stuff ….its just nasty, its sickening :/
Then when I was walking out of that class, the teacher looked at me with the biggest smile ever and said “wow…that was a pretty interesting conversation you had there…”
I laughed and walked out of class feeling like that whole conversation was pointless.... I didn’t even get my point across to that girl! I thought of so many things I could tell her.. but after it already happened!…I always do that, I always think of the best things to say AFTER it happened, so its no use. I also really don’t want to have to talk about “that” again.
Hopefully someone will set her straight.
All I gotta say is “Thank God for Islam” :)

Contemplations
I was thinking a lot today. I drifted off more then I usually do...I kept thinking... thought, after thought, after thought...a whole bunch of random stuff..
One that stuck to me...for a long time now, is the fact that so many of us Muslims seem to be so ashamed about ourselves, it’s quite saddening…
I went shopping with my dad today (lol..i know..I went with daddy... but I'm as broke as it gets) and I saw this Muslim woman with her little baby and a toddler, she was walking down the streets of South Edmonton Common, with her head up high and a big smile as she saw my father and I. It’s always comforting to be acknowledged by a random Muslim on the street : )
I watched her for awhile until I could no longer see her, but as I watched, I wished so badly that I could be like her. People, mostly men, think that the longer we wear hijab, the easier it gets. True, true (for some), but I’ve been wearing it since the first grade and it only got harder by the time I hit 11/12 yrs old. I think it was 9/11…that definitely shook up Toronto. It was so intense, that the teachers would be watching it in the middle of class, as it was happening. The next day people started asking me if I was from Afghanistan. (lol) …sometimes I would say yes, sometimes no, it wasn’t really considered lying because most of the people that were asking me already knew I wasn’t Afghani, they just did it to mess with me I guess. Like I was saying, yeah, I ain’t gon lie to anyone, but wearing the hijab is definitely the hardest thing… for me. Hijab is not necessarily just the veil on a woman’s head, it could also be described as the “whole” outfit (ex: abaya, jilbab etc) so yeah…it’s more my pick of outfit that I’m having such a hard time to adjust to, but it always helps me to remember a piece of advice given by a friend: that pleasing people isn’t going to get you anywhere in life or the hereafter, but pleasing god will give you satisfaction and some peace within the heart, and “heaven”.
To sum that up: (keep your eye on the prize = jannah)
Last week, I think it was a Tuesday, it felt like one of those hot summer afternoons. It was 3rd period and I was in the language lab, people started asking me if I was hot wearing what I was wearing. I smiled and said that I think its all psychological, if you get your mind to believe that it's really hot, then you’ll burn, even when your wearing the smallest pair of shorts you can find and a tank top, but if you make your mind believe that it’s not as hot as it seems to be…then it wont be…simple as that.
So… I’m doing my work right, then I spotted two Muslim girls standing at the door. One smiled at me and the other was lost in her own sea of thoughts. They walked towards me, I was so focused on my work that I hadn’t noticed they walked right by me, I looked at them, it was a very quick glance. I couldn’t believe what my eyes had just seen. I was so sure… I thought I had just seen…a Muslim girl wearing a skirt, not just any skirt, a mini skirt, and not just any mini skirt, the latest version of mini skirts in the fashion industry , the ones that poof out on the ends so when you bend down you see “everything”. I couldn’t believe it, I wouldn’t believe ….I still can’t believe it…
Maybe I mixed her up with someone else…I looked very fast so it could have been my mistake, but before I had anytime to look back…she was already gone.
If what I saw was the real deal, if what I saw was a Muslim girl degrading herself to the point in which her body is for all eyes to see, then subhan’Allah.
I thought of Judgment Day too and how near it can be. So many signs have come already.
Rasool’Allah (S.A.W) mentioned many signs that will determine the nearness of “yomal qiiamat”. He(S.A.W) said : when adultery will become widespread, and the drinking of wine will become common. When Islam will become worn out like clothes are, until no one will know what fasting, prayer, charity and rituals are…when women will be wearing clothes.. but not wearing clothes ...
Time is running out...

Today...
Today I went to that marriage talk at the U of A....I was suppose to go shopping instead but my dad got stuck in traffic at the airport so it was a last minute thing..I didn't think anyone my age would go...plus, I had nothing better to do.. either than studying but I'm sick of that. It was actually very interesting, i didn't take any notes though...sadly I'm not very good at taking notes..but the most important thing that I did learn is: not to expect too much from your futur spouse...but I like it better in the sense that we shouldn't expect too much from anyone because sometimes our expectations are to high wich "will" cause some killer problems. He (the speaker) also said to the ladies that we better forget about all those oh so fancy, fantasie weddings...cause it it gon happen! I was like "aww man! does that meen I wont get to wear a tiara when I get married :'( "
It was nice seeing all those muslim faces, the one thing i like about islamic seminars is the environment, its always so peaceful and everyone is so nice to one another, hugs and kisses on the cheek (lol).
Although some people are two faced (actually everyone is) and are so nice at these types of gatherings and become a totally different person in other public areas (such as school), its always good to see their better side when things like these come around : )
I met a few new people from Ottawa, some from my hometown Toronto, some Northsiders, Southsiders don't recall no east or westsiders (lol)
can't wait for that symposium though!

A Day in the life of a Paradox
The act of staying sane is making me crazy
I watch the blind
hear the deaf
kill for life
happy to be angry
live for my death
I hate my love
live underground
but attack from above
a criminal for justice
I fight for peace
a fool for wisdom
a man with a piece
The chrome shines
but my kind laughs at guns
I fear none
that's when I got jacked by nuns
I live in a time when priests cheat
when a brothers keeper won't keep
when you can sell your body and sell your soul on the same street
demons make millions selling death to children
buildings take place of nature
the sun burns through glaciers
pure energy
you hear imagery
and see sounds
smell verbs and nouns
looked up to those underground
not those standing over
nowhere I find a four leaf clover
only weeds that are picked to inhale
jail cells in hell
my habitat repels
light and such
I can look for its touch but not much
I'm in nights clutch
trying to make me nocturnal
paternal thoughts
I watch
cross the street
slide and collide
with reality
the mentality of me is unknown
not fully grown
but owned by me
and only me
it's swollen me
to this illiotic level of poetry...

Bus ride
This morning I woke up 30 minutes before catching my bus....Kind of weird since I usualy wake up 1 hour or 2 max before the bus comes. I had no time for breakfast and nearly forgot to brush my teeth, I had put my shoes on and ran out of the house. I got to the bus stop , I was half asleep and the bus came about 2 minutes after I got there. The bus stoped right infront of me and I was the last one to get on...
I'm on the bus and I could see this girl wearing one of those school uniforms with a little baby in a stroller. I was looking at her, but not really looking....like I said, I was half asleap so I didn't really know what it was I was looking at. All I see is her struggling with the stroller, she just kept moving it back and forth ..and I'm like "ok...whats goin on?" This other lady starts yelling at me and this other girl next to me...this is what she said "Can't you see she's tryna get off the bus?! Move outa the way! GEEZ!" I was so shocked and literally ran off the bus! I'm thinking "Oh my god." I get off the bus to make way, once I was off I told that girl that I was so sorry and that I didn't know she was trying to get off, she told me not to even worry about it and gave me a smile. The whole bus heard me when I apologized while the other girl(that was blocking my way to begin with and that was also yelled at) just stood there and watched her and gave me this wierd dirty look. I get on the bus and sit right in front of the woman that yelled at me, the whole bus ride she was looking at me and I could see her from the corner of my eye, I'm thinking "don't look back! don't look back!" She was so scary, when she yelled, it was as if she was only yelling at me, even though there were atleast 2 others in the way, and if it weren't for those 2, then I wouldn't even be in her way to begin with! I can't stop thinking about! I was thinking about it the whole entire day! I'm thinking "It's probably cause I'm muslim....or maybe cause I'm black!" ...But the woman who yelled at me was black and the girl with the stroller was black....so I guess that doesn't work (lol)....but I did look around..and I was the only muslim that I could "see" on the bus, no other hijabs, no coofis.....I'm not going to jump to conclusion here but when I ever I get dirty looks, I know its because of the way I dress (hijab)....I dont get why people seem so threatened by a girl wearing a veil...it's acually really funny. Goodness Gracious!
The weirdest thing ever!!
My 6 yrs old sister comes back from her quran classes and this guy from school brings her home. I didn't know he was there but i yelled out "IM NOT WEARING A HIJAB" really loud just incase. My brothers always leave the doors open..I dont know why but its getting irritating! There's always some ramdom guys walking in and out of this house..so I basically have to wear my hijab 24/7 !!! Ok...so all i see is my baby sis. come through the door and I'm like "oh, its just you:) ". Im about to close the door and someones head just pops out! My mouth droped to the ground, and "HE" ,yes, "he" looked straight at me and says "Hi Deka". I couldn't even move, my mouth practically hit the ground and my eyes were as wide as it gets! I ran to the living room to get my hijab. I WASN'T WEARING MY HIJAB AND I WAS WEARING A T-SHIRT!! omg :'( Since when do you just peak into somebodies house?!
(Im just thankful that i did my hair the night before and that it wasn't afro'd up..that would of been even weirder.)
lol..just kidding.
It's going to be so weird seing him at school tomorow....

I miss those days...
It only seems like yesterday...
Those days of...running against the wind with all my might, swirling in the rain until I was drenched, those days of constant laugher and constant daydreams, I was so full of life but knew nothing of reality.
